Other Graduate Programs

Computer Science

The Graduate Group in Computer Science offers programs of study leading to the MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science. The varied nature of the faculty brings a wide variety of research interests to the program. Research strengths lie in algorithms, artificial intelligence, computer architecture, computer graphics, computer systems design, database systems, computer security, computer networks, fault tolerance, program specifications and verification, programming languages and compilers, parallel and distributed systems, operating systems, performance evaluation, robotics, scientific computation, and software engineering. Interdisciplinary research in computer science is encouraged. There is also a specific program that offers an MS in Medical Informatics. Other opportunities for specific research in bio-informatics and computational biology can be found at specific faculty homepages.

Food Science

Food Science is a multidisciplinary subject, which includes the knowledge applied during the transformation of raw agricultural products into safe, nutritious, and appealing foods. Students receive a broad background in food chemistry, food biochemistry, food microbiology, food engineering, and food processing and in-depth training in one of several areas of emphasis including chemistry, biochemistry, fermentations, and microbiology. The program is designed to accommodate both students with food science degrees and those with little or no food science background who have a Bachelor's degree or a strong background in the physical or biological sciences or engineering. The food science graduate program at UC Davis is recognized as being among the strongest in the world.

Other Opportunities

Other opportunities for graduate training include traditional fields such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering. (Note: see also Biomedical Engineering).
