SeaDoc Society's Joe Gaydos to Serve on Northwest Straits Advisory Commission

Washington Governor Gary Locke has appointed Joseph Gaydos, DVM, of Eastsound, WA (Orcas Island)  to the Northwest Straits Advisory Commission. His term remains effective until Oct. 31, 2008.

The Northwest Straits Advisory Commission of Washington provides an ecosystem focus on the marine resources of the Northwest Straits as a whole; helps mobilize science to focus on key priorities; guides and provides resources to the Marine Resources Committees; and serves as a forum for coordination and consensus building.

Gaydos will help provide scientific support for Northwest Straits Commission and county Marine Resource Committees. Gaydos is the regional director of the SeaDoc Society, a program of the UC Davis Wildlife Health Center at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Over the past few years, the SeaDoc Society has funded more than $1 million in marine conservation research, some of which has directly supported Northwest Straits Commission citizen-based science. The results of these research projects are already helping managers and planners better steward marine resources in the Puget Sound/ Northwest Straits region.

Gaydos says,"The SeaDoc Society has a strong history of providing scientific support for regional marine conservation efforts and I am excited that this appointment to the Northwest Straits Commission will further enable us to add value to all of the good work that is being done." Gaydos adds, "The Northwest Strait Commission is doing great work, and it's an honor to be a part of this effort."
