The American Veterinary Medical Association announced July 18 that Dr. John E. Madigan (DVM '75) received the Animal Welfare Award for his efforts to advance animal well-being, dedication to animal care, and contributions to the community and society. Dr. Madigan is a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of California-Davis and heads its Veterinary Emergency Response and Helicopter Rescue teams.

Dr. Madigan developed the Anderson sling and Large Animal Lift for the rescue and rehabilitation of animals. He has served on several committees pertaining to emergency and disaster preparedness and helped with animal rescue during the floods in Yuba City, Calif., and Hurricane Floyd.
