Dr. Michelle Hawkins
Dr. Michelle Hawkins has been appointed as Director for the California Raptor Center effective January 1, following in the footsteps of Dr. Bill Ferrier who provided leadership of the Center for the past 7 years. Board certified in Avian Practice and one of our faculty since 2003, Dr. Hawkins will be responsible for advancing a strategic vision for the CRC that continues to promote the health of raptors in our area, serves our involved community, and aligns to the School’s Strategic Plan.
An important component will be developing a plan to secure extramural funding, both philanthropic and scientifically-targeted, to support the Center, its rehabilitation program, and associated research to promote raptor health at the individual and population levels. The Raptor Center has a large, dedicated volunteer base in northern California, without which it could not function, and provides outreach opportunities for K-12 groups. Dr. Hawkins will work closely with these stakeholders and with faculty in the School and across campus to advance and enhance the Raptor Center.
