Dr. Sean Owens was recently appointed Associate Dean for Student Programs at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
April 3, 2013 - Dr. Sean Owens has been appointed by Chancellor Katehi as Associate Dean for Student Programs in the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine for a five-year term. His appointment was based on the recommendation of a faculty committee after town hall presentations, interviews, and broad faculty, staff, and student input.
As a member of the senior leadership team of the School, the Associate Dean for Student Programs, reports directly to the Dean, is a member of the Dean’s Cabinet, and is responsible for leadership, oversight, and administrative management of the Student Programs Office.
The primary responsibilities of the Associate Dean are provision and coordination of support services for professional students; management of the DVM admissions process; pre-veterinary outreach activities including diversity and career advising; and student ceremonies. Dr. Owens will lead efforts to enhance student experiences and promote awareness of career opportunities in academia, research, private practice and in public health. He will promote our strategic efforts to broaden the diversity of our student community to represent the demographics of our society and work to communicate the value and relevance of veterinary medicine to underrepresented minority communities and expand our outreach efforts at the high school and undergraduate levels to encourage more students to apply to veterinary medicine.
