Dr. Richard LeCouteur, professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery in the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, has recently been named the Vice President of Scientific Content/Chief Veterinary Officer of the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC). The position was created to assist NAVC’s expansion into the largest veterinary professional development resource through its online materials, live events, scholarship programs and global community outreach. Dr. LeCouteur’s appointment to this progressive and visionary leadership role ensures that the most up-to-date, reliable and leading-edge medical information is shared throughout all NAVC products and services.

In his new role as CVO, Dr. LeCouteur will lead potential research activities undertaken by NAVC and its partners, serve as the Editor-in-Chief for all in-house NAVC developed content, and oversee many of the NAVC professional development programs, including the OnCampus Program, NAVC Institute, NAVC Expeditions and Online Learning Program, as well as International programs, relationships and the speaker exchange.

“Dr. LeCouteur brings an extensive and highly respected background as a practicing veterinarian, writer, educator and advisor,” states NAVC CEO Tom Bohn. “We’re delighted that Rick has accepted this new position to serve as the ‘face’ and ‘voice’ for NAVC technical and scientific issues in accordance with generally accepted best practices.”

Dr. LeCouteur spent several years in private veterinary practice before coming to UC Davis. He has extensive experience in writing and editing veterinary healthcare articles, presenting and leading educational courses and programs, and participating in educational programs in more than 50 countries. Dr. LeCouteur also serves as the Editor-in-Chief for NAVC Clinician’s Brief.

NAVC is a nonprofit association that provides world-class professional development for the global veterinary healthcare community. Its largest educational initiative—the annual NAVC Conference—attracts 16,000 attendees from more than 70 countries.
