The Legacy of Peter J. Ihrke
A celebration of life will be presented for Dr. Peter Ihrke, VMD, Diplomat American College of Veterinary Dermatology and Professor Emeritus, on Wednesday, April 30 @ 5pm, 1020 Valley Hall (reception to follow).

Dr. Peter Ihrke was a past president of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, a past president of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, a past president of the World Small Animal Veterinary Medical Association and was the President of the 4th World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology (San Francisco 2000). In 2013, he was the recipient of the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology’s Frank Král Award as recognition of his outstanding achievements and dedicated service to the veterinary profession and specialty of veterinary dermatology. Dr. Ihrke was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine where he also did his residency in dermatology. He joined the faculty at the University of California, Davis in 1978 and taught thousands of veterinary students and trained dozens of dermatology residents prior to retiring in 2011. He organized and oversaw the George Muller Veterinary Dermatology Seminar which now also bears his name and continues into its thirtieth year. Peter generously shared his knowledge and passion for veterinary dermatology throughout the world via his extensive lecturing, his authored works, collaborations with others, and his personal connections with many colleagues.
In these multiple ways he helped guide and shape the specialty of veterinary dermatology today and his influence through the people he mentored will remain a part of his legacy.
