Outstanding Grad Students Honored 

Brant Schumaker, DVM 2005, a doctoral student in the Graduate Group in Epidemiology, has been selected for the 2007 Graduate Student Teaching Award at UC Davis. Schumaker is also a Veterinary Graduate Academic Fellow in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology at the School of Veterinary Medicine. Schumaker also studied in the Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine program.

The UC Davis Graduate Council, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Teaching Resources Center sponsor this award to recognize the contributions of graduate students to teaching and learning at UC Davis
during 2006.

Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef will present Schumaker with the award at a ceremony May 1.

Sophia Papageorgiou has been selected as a 2008-2009 Professor for the Future. Papageorgiou, a veterinarian and graduate of the Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine program, is a doctoral student in the Graduate Group in Epidemiology.

Professors for the Future is a year-long competitive fellowship program that recognizes and develops the leadership skills of outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who have demonstrated their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and academic service. Sponsored by the Office of Graduate Studies, the program focuses on the future challenges of graduate education, postdoctoral training, and the academy. The program also helps prepare UC Davis doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars for an increasingly competitive marketplace and a rapidly changing university environment.
