The Center for Equine Health’s publications, notably The Horse Report, received a total of three awards on Saturday, June 21, at the American Horse Publications (AHP) Annual Awards Program held in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Two of the awards were for first place in the categories Service to the Reader and Equine-Related Newsletter (Print). The service award was for an issue on equine herpesvirus - 1, EHV-1, authored by John Madigan, Gregory L. Ferraro and Barbara Meierhenry.

The third award was in the category Equine-Related Special Issue Publication for Suspensory Ligament Injuries in Horses, which received third place. Research veterinarian Sue Stover is the main author of that publication.

Sixty-nine AHP members were named finalists in the 2008 AHP Annual Awards Contest for material published in 2007.  Participation in this year’s contest represented 105 AHP members and 1,092 entries.  Twenty-nine professional judges placed the classes and provided constructive critiques for all entries.  Since its inception in 1974, the American Horse Publications Annual Awards Program has recognized excellence in editorial content and graphic design.

Volume 1, Issue 1 of The Horse Report was published 26 years ago for the purpose of reporting research activities to members of the horse world as well as for eliciting feedback in order to be aware of the horse community’s needs and respond to them.

Today, the recognition received from AHP alongside other highly respected publications is not only a tremendous honor for the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, but an indication that we are filling an important need in the equine industry.
