Peter Dickinson, a veterinary neurologist in the Neurology/Neurosurgery Service at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, is working with medical researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, to develop a new method of delivering chemotherapy drugs directly into brain tumors. During the past year, several clients with very sick dogs have agreed to participate in this research--and help their own pets at the same time. If the project in dogs shows that the process can be consistently applied, medical researchers can work with the FDA to begin clinical trials in humans.
Here's the story from KPIX/CBS 5 in San Francisco.
