UCVMC-SD hosted veterinary renal medicine professionals during Kidney Week.

The UC Veterinary Medical Center-San Diego (UCVMC-SD) recently hosted a reception for veterinarians and veterinary industry leaders who attended the American Society of Nephrology’s Kidney Week in San Diego. Kidney Week, an annual conference for human and veterinary medical professionals, represents the largest and most prestigious gathering of the world’s scientists, physicians, pathologists, and industry leaders with an interest in kidney disease. Kidney Week was attended by more than 13,000 professionals, showcased more than 1,500 state-of-the-art presentations, and featured thousands of posters and abstracts probing advances for a better understanding of kidney disease.

Historically, veterinarians with an interest in kidney disease have not prioritized the opportunities afforded by the breadth and quality of Kidney Week to the advancement of managing kidney disease in animals. This reception provided a mechanism to publicize these opportunities, as well as an incentive and source of camaraderie for veterinary clinicians and scientists to gather at this important meeting.

This was the fourth reception in a tradition for UCVMC-SD when Kidney Week is held in San Diego. UCVMC-SD, a satellite of the UC Davis veterinary hospital, offers services in renal medicine, cardiology, pharmacy, and nutrition. Led by Dr. Larry Cowgill, the center has been offering world-class veterinary services to Southern California pet owners since 2002.
