Japanese Littleneck or Manila Clam (Vererupis philippinarum)

This clam was accidentally introduced from Asia in the 1930s with imported Pacific oyster seed. Since its introduction, the clam has spread extensively and now can be found from British Columbia south to northern California. It competes with the native littleneck clam (Protothaca staminea) for food and space.
