Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritis)

The Double-crested Cormorant is widely distributed throughout North America and a year round resident to the Puget Sound Georgia Basin marine ecosystem. It can be distinguished from other local cormorant species by its orange facial skin and throat pouch and tends to fly with a pronounced crook in its neck. They are very adept divers and can reach depths of up to 20 meters while foraging for fish. The double-crested cormorant is very sensitive to both human and eagle disturbance and is currently Red listed by the Province of British Columbia.
