The pelagic cormorant tends to nest on narrow ledges in small dispersed colonies throughout the region. It is the smallest of the local cormorant species and displays a white flank patch and red facial skin during breeding season. It can be found year round nesting on steep rocky cliffs throughout the Puget Sound Georgia Basin marine ecosystem. They are optimistic feeders that feed primarily on various crustaceans and fish species. The pelagic cormorant is very sensitive to both human and eagle disturbance and is currently Red listed by the Province of British Columbia.
