The Companion Exotic Animal and Medicine Surgery Service provides primary and emergency care for your sick or injured pet bird, reptile, or small mammal.
Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service
The Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service provides specialized diagnostic testing, medical treatments, surgical options and emergency care for your pet bird, reptile, amphibian, fish or small mammal.
Our veterinarians work in conjunction with all specialty services within the VMTH including behavior, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, neurology, oncology, and ophthalmology. Our cooperative approach allows for your pet to be evaluated by experts in the specialized discipline of interest while still being managed by our exotics clinicians who have extensive expertise and experience in exotic animal medicine.
We also offer specialized imaging services and diagnostics including:
- Advanced endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures
- Surgical lasers CO2, Holmium:YAG
A mobile service is available for flock or herd examinations in breeding facilities or other large collections.
During daytime hours, the Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service also provides care for injured and sick wildlife and works in conjunction with the California Raptor Center to rehabilitate injured birds of prey for release back to the wild. PLEASE NOTE: We do not accept injured bats, deer, raccoons, possums or healthy baby birds that have fallen out of a nest as we do not have capacity to support these animals. We are also unable to accept other injured wildlife for veterinary care after 6 PM in the evening. At this time, the VMTH does not offer an after-hours emergency service for sick companion exotic animals (birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and small mammals), only for dogs and cats. An after-hours telephone consultation service is available for existing clients of the service on an emergency basis for a fee.
