We are excited to announce LVMA’s interactive ofrenda (altar) and lunch event for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) which is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. To commemorate the lives of loved ones, LVMA and the Gourley staff have created an ofrenda which will be on display in Valley Commons on November 1st from 8am-5pm. If you would like to participate, we encourage you to bring a photo or special object (no food, please!) that represents a loved one or a beloved pet and place it on the altar to help us all remember and celebrate the joy that they brought to your life. We have also placed paper in the shape of animal prints by the altar for you to write a note or the name of a loved pet who has passed. We encourage you to thank the animals whose lives help us in our learning and in research as well. From 12-1pm, there will also be poetry reading, arts and crafts, and snacks. We hope that this event brings our SVM community together as we remember and commemorate all people and animals that have made a lasting impact in our lives.
