Work-in-Progress Seminars
Dr. Christopher Lopez, Ph.D, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at the California State University, Sacramento State.
Dr. Lopez presents: "From Gut to Grand Cru: Competition and Warfare Across Diverse Microbial Communities"
Chris is a California native. He received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science at UC Davis, where he later stayed to work in the lab of Dr. Andreas Baumler. There, he received a Ph.D. in microbiology studying how pathogenic bacteria acquire nutrients in the intestines. Chris continued in research at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he joined the lab of Dr. Eric Skaar as a postdoc. He switched his focus to anaerobic bacteria in the intestines, primarily studying the pathogenesis of Clostridioides difficile. Chris's lab at CSUS continues to explore how intestinal bacteria adapt to changes in the intestinal environment. Additionally, he has expanded to investigating microbial ecology in Northern California fermented cider.
