Join the Student Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (SVECCS) as we host Dr. Broussard, consultant veterinarian from MT Venom, for a talk about current clinical antivenom treatment options for Crotaline snake envenomation in the United States for dogs, cats, and horses. The current available antivenom options will be discussed, along with standard diagnostics and treatment protocols. The safety and efficacy profile of a novel Fab2 antivenom will also be discussed. Dr. Broussard received her BS degree in Zoology and DVM degree from the University of California at Davis, graduating in 1988. She initially practiced clinical companion animal medicine for 6 years at a 24-hour, multidoctor practice in Southern California, as well as locum veterinary services at numerous day and emergency practices throughout the region. She and a colleague then established a small animal private practice in Oak Park, California which they successfully managed and practiced in for 25 years before it was purchased by a national veterinary corporation in 2019. Dr. Broussard currently lives in Northern California and is employed as the consultant veterinarian for the MT Venom corporation. In her position at MT Venom, she provides 24-hour phone support and fields online questions from practicing veterinarians with envenomation cases, lectures at national and international conferences, has played a key role in organizing and supervising clinical trials and compiling data and study reports for USDA approvals, and has collaborated on scientific papers for publication. Dr. Broussard also volunteers year-round as a mentor in the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Communication and Professional Skills courses.
