Alumna Sandy Willis Elected Chair of AVMA Board of Directors

Dr. Sandy Willis, a 1984 graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, was elected chair of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Board of Directors (BOD). Dr. Willis, District 11 representative on the AVMA BOD, was elected chair on July 20 while meeting during AVMA Convention 2025 in Washington, D.C., held in conjunction with the 40th World Veterinary Association Congress.

Dr. Willis has been active in the AVMA for more than two decades. She was elected to the AVMA Board in 2020 and was voted as its 2024-25 vice chair. Before then, she represented Washington state in the AVMA House of Delegates and chaired the House Advisory Committee. Additionally, she served on the AVMA Strategic Management Committee, Budget and Finance Review Committee, and American Veterinary Medical Foundation board.

Her work in organized veterinary medicine includes serving three terms as president of the Puget Sound VMA and two terms leading the Washington State VMA, which named her Veterinarian of the Year in 2015.
