School of Veterinary Medicine to Host Open House

The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is offering several activities at Picnic Day 2018, an annual campus open house to be held Saturday, April 21, 2018. Come see the best veterinary school in the world in action.

SVM activities on Picnic Day:

Hospital Tours: 1 - 4 p.m.
Guided tours of the veterinary hospital include stops in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory, Veterinary Blood Bank, Small Animal Specialties, Equine Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging. Tours will have strict participant capacity and registration is on a first come, first served basis. Registration for tours begins at 12 p.m. on Picnic Day at the Information Tent located at the entrance to the Small Animal Clinic of the hospital. No prior reservations will be accepted. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME EARLY TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT ON A TOUR. LAST YEAR, ALL TOURS WERE BOOKED WITHIN THE FIRST HOUR OF REGISTRATION.

Informational Booths: 1 - 4 p.m.
School of Veterinary Medicine officials and students will host several promotional and informational booths near the Small Animal Clinic entrance to the hospital. Booths will include information on how to become a veterinary student, backyard poultry biosecurity display, information on student programs and clubs, and animal care services offered at the hospital.

Doxie Derby: 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
The Class of 2020 will continue the 30+-year tradition of veterinary students presenting the Doxie Derby. Dozens of dachshunds race after a simulated rabbit to prove who’s top dog, while thousands of attendees at the ARC Pavilion cheer for their favorite pup.

Parade: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Since the beginning of the SVM more than 60 years ago, students have created a float and featured it in the Picnic Day Parade. The students are hard at work creating this year’s animal-themed float.
