Celebrating our Alumni – 2025 Alumni Weekend

This past weekend, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine hosted its annual Alumni Weekend, which welcomed nearly 250 alumni and friends back to campus. Over the course of three days, classes celebrating milestone reunions (60, 55, 50, 40, 30, 25, 20, and 10 years) gathered to reconnect, explore campus, join the fun Halloween-themed TG, honor award recipients, and learn about many new and exciting things happening at the school.

Friday evening kicked off with the ever-popular all-school Halloween TG and “Dogstume” Contest, a Canine Medicine Club tradition. The ensembles this year were downright impressive for both humans and animals alike. A common theme included groups dressed as farm animals–sheep and cattle were well represented!

On Saturday morning, alumni escaped the rain while listening to Philip Kass, DVM ’83, MPVM ’84, MS ’88, Ph.D. ’90 give an informative lecture on the evolution of small animal epidemiology in veterinary medicine, and how his childhood infatuation with mystery books led to this lifelong career choice. View the recording here. Dr. Kass was selected as this year’s Oscar W. Schalm Lectureship speaker. The lectureship was founded in 1988 to honor Dr. Schalm’s memory and annually recognizes a lecturer’s distinguished contributions to the veterinary profession.

Following the lecture, alumni gathered for brunch and took class photos before departing on guided tours of the vet med complex. Stops included the new Meadowview Foundation Dentistry and Oral Surgery Center, Advanced Surgery Center, and All Species Imaging Center among other locations.

Saturday concluded with the Alumni Awards Banquet to recognize and celebrate the 2025 Rising Star and Alumni Achievement award winners. The program included a welcome from Jon Klingborg, DVM ’92, remarks from Dean Mark Stetter, cheers to milestone classes, including Class of 1975’s Golden Anniversary, and speeches from each award winner. The group also gave a touching standing ovation to Dr. Steve Talbot, the only member of Class of 1965 to make an appearance.

It was an incredible weekend of joy, pride and laughter. We look forward to hosting our alumni again next year!
