Pop-Tart, an 8-year-old corgi mix, was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2015. After treatment at UC Davis, she quickly went into remission for two years.
“For two more wonderful years, we got to go on more adventures and share more love with our dear Poppy but unfortunately, because of the type of cancer she has, it came back,” said her owner Ash. “Our friends had rallied together to help us pay for her treatment the first time around, and I had spent nearly all of my savings. When her blood work came back with irregular cells, we didn’t know if we could afford any more treatment. Even though I knew this news was going to come someday, nothing could prepare me for it emotionally. I didn’t know what to do with myself. When the vets at UC Davis told us about the Petco Blue Buffalo Foundation, and that we could get help from them, I cried. We could get her the treatment she needed.” Now after more treatment with the UC Davis oncology specialists, Pop-Tart is back in remission and doing well.
Pop-Tart’s care was made possible, in part, by a generous grant from the Blue Buffalo Foundation’s support of the Petco Foundation pet cancer treatment program at the UC Davis veterinary hospital. The grant helps support treatments for domestic companion animals suffering from cancer. The project is designed to support pet parents of modest means or pet parents whose pets provide a service to others.
