Dr. Boaz Arzi Becomes First Veterinarian Member of American Society of TMJ Surgeons

Dr. Boaz Arzi, chief of the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service at the UC Davis veterinary hospital, has been accepted as an affiliate member to the American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons (ASTMJS). He is the first veterinarian accepted into the society.

Arzi recently gave a keynote address at the 2023 ASTMJS Annual Meeting. The lecture, entitled “A Comparative Glance into the TMJ in Veterinary Medicine,” was well received by the physician members.

“Being the first veterinarian accepted into ASTMJS is quite a humbling experience,” said Arzi. “The important connections being made with this group will help me shape the future of TMJ managements at UC Davis.”

ASTMJS was formed in 1986 as a professional group dedicated to TMJ and specifically, surgical management of TMJ disorders. The non-profit organization of maxillofacial, orthopedic, plastic/ reconstructive, and oral surgical specialists is dedicated to promoting education, research, and patient services concerning the orthopedic disease of the TMJ. Members of the organization must possess significant surgical experience and an interest in performing research or clinical studies of orthopedic disease or dysfunction of this joint system.
