Oral Surgeons Named Founding Fellows

Two UC Davis oral surgeons are now Founding Fellows of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). Drs. Frank Verstraete and Boaz Arzi, of the UC Davis veterinary hospital’s Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service (DOSS), were recognized at the 2018 Veterinary Dental Forum that was recently held in Phoenix, Arizona. This recognition was given by the AVDC to only 14 individuals worldwide.

A Founding Fellow in OMFS is a Diplomate (board-certified) of the AVDC who has demonstrated advanced experience and expertise in OMFS by obtaining additional training beyond a residency program. Fellows devote a large portion of their practice to OMFS patients. The AVDC is the clinical specialist organization for veterinary dentists, recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Additionally, two former UC Davis DOSS residents—Drs. Nadine Fiani and Santiago Peralta—were also recognized as Founding Fellows. In addition to its robust three-year residency, DOSS hopes to soon become the first to offer an OMFS fellowship program at the UC Davis veterinary hospital.
