The California Legislature recently passed an Assembly Resolution honoring UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Professor Rodrigo Gallardo. Assembly Member Resolution No. 1257 congratulates Dr. Gallardo upon his receipt of the California Poultry Federation’s (CPF) prestigious Golden Rooster Award.

According to CPF, the Golden Rooster Award is the California poultry industry’s highest honor. It is meant for the industry’s most outstanding member or supporter who has made major contributions to the poultry industry. The award “is an inspiration for all to admire.”

The resolution recognized Gallardo’s extensive experience in the poultry industry, which draws inspiration from his family’s rich history in poultry science. His grandfather was one of the founders of the poultry medicine laboratory at the University of Chile, and his father was a veterinarian and researcher who focused on understanding infectious bronchitis and its prevention.

After working as a veterinarian in diagnostic laboratories detecting viral diseases in Chile, he accepted a position at UC Davis in 2012. He is now head of the school’s Poultry Medicine Program, which partners with the CPF to translate research into practical actions that safeguard the industry.

The award and resolution were presented to Gallardo at the 2025 CPF Annual Conference.
