Due to developing circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, including adhering to social distancing and limiting public gatherings, the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is currently altering its patient receiving schedule.
As of 8am March 19, the VMTH will be OPEN FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY. Currently, this status is scheduled to stay in place until at least May 1. Based on the mandatory shelter in place order for Yolo County, the hospital’s receiving will be restricted to emergent medical conditions, follow up of current patients with urgent medical needs, and ongoing chemotherapeutic and radiation therapy treatments. Veterinary facilities are considered essential during these times, and our aim is to remain open in order to provide patient care to animals with life threatening medical conditions.
Most appointments scheduled for the near future will be rescheduled. Clients are currently being contacted regarding cancellations and rescheduling.
Our Emergency Room will remain open 24/7 for emergent medical concerns. Please call 530-752-1393 if you need help assessing the urgency of an animal’s condition.
If you feel you have an emergent referral, please follow your normal protocol and continue to refer that patient to the VMTH. Please contact our referral coordinators as normally to schedule those referrals.
If your referral is not emergent and can wait until the week of March 30 or beyond, please refer those patients for appointments beyond that date.
Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time.
Patient Referral Form (doc)
Case referrals from private practitioners are a major part of our caseload and provide the foundation for our DVM resident and training programs. Our faculty and residents have access to fully staffed, state-of-the-art laboratories, diagnostic imaging resources and therapeutic modalities, as well as the latest research findings in veterinary medicine. We are anxious to share our most current knowledge and resources with the referral community, and are committed to building a strong relationship with veterinarians through timely and thorough information about their patients seen at the VMTH.
Web Access to Referred Cases
About VMACS Web Access
Thank you for being an active partner with us in providing students with excellent case material through the referral process. We greatly value your referrals, and we are striving to make the referral process as easy as possible.
Through online web access you can select from a list of cases (visits) that you have formally referred to us, as well as cases for which you were identified by the client as their local veterinarian. These visits are displayed in reverse chronological order (i.e., most recent first) with modest identifying information associated (patient name, client name, date of visit, etc.). If you select a visit which has not been finalized yet, only the demographic information will be displayed (to include the primary clinician on the case). If you select a visit that has been finalized you will be able to view the following information:
- presenting complaint
- pertinent history
- physical exam findings
- inter-service consultations
- problems noted
- medical and surgical procedures performed
- laboratory results
- imaging reports
- pharmacy dispensations
- pathological diagnoses
- clinical diagnoses
- plans and progress notes
- discharge summary
- discharge instructions
Again, we thank you for being a partner with us in the education of your future colleagues.
