Dr. Hugues Beaufrere Wins National Research Award

Hugues Beaufrere, DVM, PhD, DECZM (Avian), DABVP (Avian), DACZM (Zoological Companion Animals)

Dr. Hugues Beaufrere, an associate professor in the Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service, recently won the 2023 Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV)/Lafeber Manuscript Award in the Best Original Research category. His manuscript, “Comparison of Lipoprotein Analysis Using Gel-Permeation High-Performance Liquid Chromatography and a Biochemistry Analyzer in Normolipidemic and Dyslipidemic Quaker parrots (Myiopsitta monachus),” was published in the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Beaufrere shares the award with co-author Dr. Darren Wood, an associate professor at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph.

The AAV is a diverse global professional organization dedicated to advancing and promoting avian health, welfare, and conservation through education, advocacy, and science. The AAV has more than 1,700 members comprised of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary students, and allied professionals that work in private practice, colleges and universities, zoos, government, and industry. Many of the AAV’s members are considered global leaders in avian conservation and wild bird health. The AAV strives to preserve and protect birds in the wild and their native habitats.

The Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery is the leading source for publication of avian clinical reports and original research. The Lafeber Company began partnering with the AAV in 2019 to create the AAV/Lafeber Manuscript Awards.
