SAVMA Symposium 2025
UC Davis veterinary students showcased their excellence on a national stage as they hosted the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) Symposium for 700 attendees from around the world, which wrapped up the symposium with a “Legen-Dairy” gala featuring keynote speaker Dr. Temple Grandin.
Meet Olive, Your New Favorite Galentine
For Heart Health Month, we take a look at our Cardiology Service and introduce you to a French bulldog patient named Olive. Olive inspired the cardiology team to try something they’d never done before: placing a transpulmonary stent in a narrowed or blocked pulmonary artery. These are human treatments that our faculty members are translating into animals to ensure that they have the same level of medical care as we do. We now routinely place transpulmonary stents, and we love seeing Olive thriving!
An Abused Dog’s Story
Meet Toby at the new Meadowview Foundation Dental and Oral Surgery Center. Toby was an abused doodle whose jaw was broken so badly that it healed abnormally at a perpendicular angle.

Johnny Cash was attacked by another dog and was nearly euthanized. He received a treatment that was pioneered at UC Davis more than 10 years ago by professors and oral surgeons Drs. Frank Verstraete and Boaz Arzi: using bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) to regrow missing jawbone.
