Dogs running in the Doxie Derby

Weill School Participation in Picnic Day and Give Day 2026

The school will be participating in Picnic Day on Saturday, April 18 and Give Day (April 17–18) again this year.

Everyone’s favorite event, the Doxie Derby, will take place on Saturday, April 18th from 12-2PM at the University Credit Union Center, formerly known as The Pavillion. Doors open at 11AM and tickets will be required. This year, the Class of 2028 event organizers are introducing a $10 admissions charge for the Doxie Derby to help offset increased expenses. Even with the new fee, the students hope people will buy Doxie Derby tickets, support the students, and come cheer on the pups!

Tickets will be sold in advance online for $10.

  • Tickets for UCD students go on sale in the Aggie Student Ticket Portal on April 6 at 12:00pm.
  • Tickets for faculty/staff/residents go on sale on April 7 at 12:00pm.
  • Tickets for the public go on sale on April 8 at 12:00pm.
  • 300 free tickets will be distributed on the day of the Doxie Derby, on a first come, first served basis
  • Follow the Weebly information page and the Doxie Derby Instagram page to find out how to buy tickets as the date gets closer.

The school will have two booths at the animal activities area at Hutchison Field.

The Veterinary Genetics Lab, or VGL, is the world’s premier veterinary genetics lab and has an interactive booth to learn about animal genetics. Among other activities, curious people of all ages can make their very own puppy and decode its DNA.

The school will once again host an information booth, which usually has a veterinarian, a recruitment expert, and a member of the alumni/external relations team on hand. The booth will provide information on the following:

  • Hospital information, particularly focused on primary care
  • Student recruitment
    • Student ambassador showcase
    • Admissions preparation assistance
  • Cooperative Extension showcase
  • Animal health inquiry assistance
  • Limitless campaign (Veterinary Medical Complex expansion) promotion
  • Accessible Veterinary Care information
  • Give Day promotion

If you’d like to volunteer for the information booth, please email Rob Warren at [email protected].

At 1001 Giedt Hall from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the student-run Orphan Kitten Project rescue organization will have adoptable cats on hand. Visitors can come by to snag a ticket to meet some of our adoptable kittens and learn about this wonderful organization.

In addition, Give Day returns April 17–18 for its 10th year. This year, the school will highlight the Gratitude in Action Program, which supports the people, places, and resources that make exceptional veterinary care possible. Donors may direct their support to any of the following funds:

  • Veterinary Medical Complex Fund: Supports critical hospital renovations and upgrades that improve patient care, streamline workflows, and create healing spaces for animals and their caregivers.
  • Facilities and Equipment Fund: Enables the hospital to acquire new, state-of-the-art equipment used daily across all specialties to diagnose, treat, and heal the animals we serve.
  • Training Fund: Honors our interns, residents, and fellows by funding advanced training, continuing education, and wellness resources for future veterinary leaders.
  • Compassionate Care Fund: Provides urgent medical care for animals in need—whether from loving families with limited means or rescue organizations.
  • Hospital Area of Greatest Need Fund: Allows hospital leadership to address urgent priorities and emerging opportunities — ensuring your gift makes the greatest impact.

Donations can be made on the Give Day website beginning April 17.
