Cat and Owner Both Survive Cancer

Dinx, a 10-year-old female cat, was brought to the UC Davis veterinary hospital for evaluation of a low grade soft tissue sarcoma mass on her ear that grew back after surgical removal a year prior. Most likely, another surgery would be required to remove the mass.

Dinx qualified for financial assistance at UC Davis through a generous grant from the Blue Buffalo Foundation’s support of the Petco Foundation pet cancer treatment program at the UC Davis veterinary hospital. The grant helps support treatments for domestic companion animals suffering from cancer. The project is designed to support pet parents of modest means or pet parents whose pets provide a service to others.

Surgeons obtained wide surgical margins around Dinx's tumor with a partial removal of her left ear. Dinx recovered without complication and was soon back to her old self. Interestingly at the same time, a member of Dinx’s family also needed surgery for skin cancer on his ear, so they recovered together.
