Dr. Roberto Olivares Joins California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory and UC Davis Faculty
The California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory (CAHFS) and the Department of Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology have welcomed Dr. Roberto Olivares as an assistant professor of clinical diagnostic pathology, effective March 1, 2026.
Dr. Olivares brings more than 15 years of experience in diagnostic pathology, research and academic leadership to his new role. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2009 from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2016, he completed both a Specialist in Veterinary and Biological Sciences University Teaching Diploma and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences, graduating summa cum laude from the same institution.
He began his career as a diagnostic pathologist in 2008 at the Department of Pathology in the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, where he served for a decade. In 2018, he was appointed director and chief pathologist of the Diagnostic Pathology Service at the Francisco de Asís School of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica, a role he held through 2024.
Dr. Olivares became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathology in 2023. Since 2024, he has served as a staff pathologist at CAHFS, further strengthening the laboratory’s diagnostic expertise.
His research focuses on mineral deficiencies in livestock, with an emphasis on improving animal health and supporting food safety through advanced diagnostic approaches.
In his new faculty role, Dr. Olivares will contribute to diagnostic service, teaching and research missions within CAHFS and the Department of Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology.
