On March 22, 2024, the UC Davis veterinary hospital hosted the 45th annual Gerald V. Ling Veterinary Intern and Resident Research Symposium (VIRRS). The day-long event featured short presentations of research findings from house officers (residents, fellows, interns) to fellow house officers, faculty, staff, students, and guests.
Dr. Simone Stoute, professor in the Department of Population Health & Reproduction and branch chief of California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory - Turlock, was recently named the Scientist of the Year by the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association (PEPA).
In recognizing Dr. Stoute at the PEPA annual convention, poultry veterinarian Dr. Mark Bland praised her work, noting that she has an excellent reputation for her diagnostic acumen, is a leader in the laboratory, and is recognized by industry as a highly effective communicator.
The university's Academic Senate and Federation have presented their top academic honors for 2024, and the faculty recipients are being showcased not just for their expertise, but also for their teaching, mentorship and public service. In all, 15 faculty members have received awards from the two groups at UC Davis.
Honorees this year include three from the School of Veterinary Medicine: Health Science Clinical Professor Kirsten Gilardi, Professor in Cooperative Extension Pramod Pandey, and Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor April Choi.
Dr. Michael Kent received the American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) 2023 Distinguished Service Award, presented recently at the annual ACVR conference held in New Orleans.
Dr. Julie Dechant was recognized with the 2023 Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award for excellence in teaching in the classroom and the clinic.
Dr. Hugues Beaufrere, associate professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology, was recognized with the school’s 2023 SVM Innovation in Teaching Award.
Dr. Heather Knych was recognized with the school’s 2023 Faculty Distinguished Teaching Award for excellence in teaching pharmacology at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.
Dr. Lynelle Johnson, professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology, was honored with the 2023 Boehringer-Ingelheim Research Mentoring Award.
Dr. Stephen McSorley, professor in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Cell Biology, was honored with the 2023 Zoetis Award for Research Excellence
