Four residents from the UC Davis veterinary hospital recently took home research awards from the 2019 American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) annual conference. As one of the largest veterinary conferences in the world, ACVIM receives resident research submissions from some of the best and brightest young minds in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Howard Backer, Director of the California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA), announced the recipients of the California Emergency Medical Services Camp Fire EMS Awards for 2019. The ceremony took place on June 17, 2019 from 1:45 – 4:00 pm at the Laxson Auditorium, California State University Chico.
Each year, the School of Veterinary Medicine honors distinguished graduates with Alumni Achievement Awards.This award is the highest honor bestowed by the school.
Dr. Danika Bannasch, a renowned geneticist from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, recently received an International Canine Health Award for her role in transforming dog health. As some of Europe’s most prestigious veterinary honors, the awards were organized by the Kennel Club Charitable Trust.
Dr. Jamie Peyton, chief of Integrative Medicine Service at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, was named a recipient of the 2019 Chancellor’s Innovation Awards at a ceremony at the UC Davis Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts May 30. It is the fourth year for the awards, which recognize the important contributions of faculty, community partners and industry leaders in helping to establish UC Davis as a global leader in innovation.
Dr. Melissa Bain will receive the World Small Animal Veterinary Association’s 2019 Companion Animal Welfare Award in July. She is being recognized for her contributions to animal welfare through integrating the field of human-animal interactions with veterinary clinical behavior.
Congratulations to Dr. Beatriz Martínez López on being selected as a 2018-2019 Chancellor’s Fellow! In this 19th year of the program, Chancellor Gary S. May named 10 to the 2019 Class of Chancellor’s Fellow—the university’s annual honors program recognizing associate professors for high achievement in the quality and excellence of research and teaching.
Dr. Laurel Gershwin has been named as the 2018 Distinguished Veterinary Immunologist by the American Association of Veterinary Immunologists (AAVI) for lifetime achievement in veterinary immunology.
Dean Michael Lairmore welcomed new individuals to the school’s community during the annual Fall Faculty Reception on September 20th and acknowledged those in outgoing and incoming leadership roles. The school also honored faculty members with awards for excellence in teaching and research, along with volunteers honored for their service.
Congratulations to Dr. Marcela “Marcy” Uhart, director of the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center’s Latin America Program. She received the Wildlife Disease Association's 2018 Distinguished Service Award.
